Farke on injury crisis, finishing strongly and safety

Farke on injury crisis, finishing strongly and safety.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has spoken to the media ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Brighton at Elland Road (kick-off 15:00 BST).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

  • Farke began with an extensive team news update: “Ilia Gruev is out for the season; we discussed this. Noah Okafor isn’t available for this game. Gabriel Gudmundsson and Jayden Bogle are out for this game, and Facundo Buonanotte [on loan from Brighton] is ineligible to participate.”

  • He went on to say, “We also have Pascal Struijk who hasn’t started training since the last game. I doubt he’ll be accessible [this weekend].

    • Ethan Ampadu is now ill, a significant doubt, and was not in training today, so there are a few questions, but we have always found a way to send a competitive side out on the pitch, and this is what we will aim to do in our final home game.”

    • Despite the injury concerns, which he termed as “the most difficult situation we had throughout the season,” Farke stated, “We want to finish as strong as possible and with the best possible result.”

    • I support my entire group, as well as my players, in these conditions, to give another outstanding performance at home while also being competitive against a very strong team battling for Europe.

    • But in this game, we obviously need our supporters to help us out a little bit, but we’ll work on solutions to stay competitive.”

  • He stated Leeds can play with a “smile on our face” since they are in a “pretty privileged position” as a freshly promoted side with two games to go on 44 points.

    • Farke extended his “heartfelt gratitude” to the club, saying they “trusted me to come into this club in a difficult moment and lead this club into, hopefully, a better future.”

  • He also acknowledged the fans, saying that Leeds has a “huge and positive fanbase” that “loves the club so much and cares so much about the club”.
