Woman scratched, hit and tried to bite A&E nurse.
A lady who has a history of aggression against emergency workers was punished for attacking a nurse.
On July 19, Michaela Cable, 25, of Meadow Drive in Diss, Norfolk, pleaded guilty to common assault against a nurse at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s accident and emergency ward.
She scratched and hit the nurse before attempting to bite her right forearm after making contact with her teeth, Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told on Tuesday. Cable was ordered to pay a £200 fine, £50 in compensation for the nurse, and an £80 victim surcharge.
Vulnerable individual
According to the court, when Cable refused to cease vaping, the nurse requested her to leave.
According to her defence barrister, Cable was admitted to the hospital for a kidney infection and was described as a fragile person with mental health concerns, ADHD, and autism. Cable’s kidney troubles require her to visit the hospital every three months, according to the court.
During her police interrogation, Cable apologised after initially refusing to answer. In 2022, the maximum term for assaulting emergency workers, including NHS staff, will be doubled to two years.
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was approached for comment.
